Our innovative Level 2 Certificate Introduction to Personal Track Safety (PTS) eLearning is a preliminary study package aimed to help you prepare for full PTS Certification. 

  • Where and when will I study?

    As the course is delivered via eLearning, access to the course and trainers is done online via a compatible electronic device. 


    We recommend a PC or laptop for the best experience although a tablet or phone are acceptable.


    You will also be able to access your course at any time and complete the modules at your own pace.

  • Who is it for?

    This is an introductory level course aimed at those looking to gain an insight into Personal Track Safety (PTS).


    Ideal for those new to the industry or learners already in the industry looking to change career direction or broaden their knowledge.

  • What will I study?

    Definitions | Positions of safety | Limited clearances | Basic introduction to safety whilst trackside | Walking safely | Approaching trains | Risk awareness | Overhead Line Equipment (OHLE) basics | Conductor Rail Equipment (CRE) basics

  • Entry requirements

    Anyone can enrol on the course and there are no entry requirements.

  • Course fees and funding

    Course fees are currently £149.99.


    Funding may be available from various Government schemes or grants. Service Leavers in their last 2 years can apply to have 80% of the course costs covered (up to £175) with their Standard Learning Credits. If you are a Service Leaver, or in your last 2 years of Service use your SLC by downloading an MoD Form 1950


    Other employers may also offer a similar resettlement funding strategy.


    Course fees grant access to the course for 12 months (1 year). If the course has not been completed in this time, learners will be removed from the course. Additional years access can be granted at additional cost to the learner.

  • Career prospects

    Successful course completion indicates with a high degree of certainty that you can successfully pass the certified Personal Track Safety (PTS) Course offered by either train operators or companies that operate on Network Rail infrastructure. It may also improve the likelihood of employment opportunities.


    Successful completion demonstrates motivation and willingness to invest in your own learning and development. It also firmly demonstrates the ability to study and learn at a very specific technical level.

  • How will I be assessed?

    On completion of the course you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge in an online assessment. 


    The assessment is multiple choice.


    Successful completion of the assessment will enable you to download your own certificate to demonstrate your achievement.

  • How long does the course take?

    1 - 2 Days on average.


    This is an introductory course that examines basic concepts and various rules and regulations.


    The course is aimed at being representative of the training you would receive as part of any initial PTS training.


    Study time based on dedicating an hour our two each day.
